Here's what Jeff believes the tech sector will bring us in 2021 Each year, I like to have a look at the huge picture and forecast what's simply around the corner. Long time readers of my work understand that I follow the most exciting tech patterns on the verge of mass adoption.
These patterns are experiencing rapid growth and creating unbelievable opportunities for investors. I wish to make sure all our readers are gotten ready for what's next. And with that in mind, let me draw the photo of what I see can be found in the next 12 months 1. 5G Devices Our brand-new 5G (fifth-generation) cordless networks are a subject I've been covering for years now.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains in 2015, a remarkable 250 million 5G-enabled gadgets were still sold. Especially in the second quarter, there were supply chain interruptions, making hold-ups, and work interruptions. And all of this eventually resulted in Apple delaying the release of the 5G-enabled i, Phone 12 by two months.
When you think about all of that, offering 250 million units is remarkable. More significantly, the hold-ups triggered by the pandemic produced a heap of suppressed demand. And that demand is now going to be pushed into 2021. In fact, I forecast that more than 500 million 5G gadgets will be shipped in 2021.
Stage Three of 5G When I've spoken about 5G in the past, I have actually explained its three different phases. In Phase One, the facilities of these new networks is constructed out, consisting of all the new towers and fiber-optic electrical wiring that 5G will need. In Stage 2, 5G gadgets go on sale.
And in Phase 3, 5G services begin to be offered. That's when we start to see applications running on 5G networks. And my 2nd 5G prediction for 2021 is that we will begin Stage 3 by this summer season.
More and more consumers will go out to purchase a 5G phone to gain access to these applications. 5G is going to open up a suite of incredible applications: self-driving cars, the Internet of Things, robotic surgical treatment, and more.
The financial investment opportunities going forward will be enormous. CRISPR Genetic Modifying Stepping away from 5G, the next important innovation I predict in 2021 is CRISPR hereditary editing. It's one of the most amazing developments in biotechnology.
